It always makes me sad when I see someone going out of their way to be diffrent. By 'going out of their way' I mean ignoring certain music that too many people like, not giving mainstream music a chance and prejudging that it sucks simply because it's mainstream. i admit; i'm slightly guilty of this.

I guess there's just something about seeing a band you like show up on Top Of The Pops that makes it drop in your standing of 'cool'. Because let's face it- it's cool to be uncool. 'Don't you dare like that band cuz they're sell outs' or 'Don't like that group cuz they're poseurs'. I find statements like these very aggravating.

I hate the term 'sell out'. Who the hell cares if the band wants to cater their popularity to the majority? Is that such a terrible crime? good for them, that's what I'd want. I also think it's amazingly unjust when bands get bashed for doing sponsered tours. What the hell does it matter if they want someone else to pick up the tab? Why does it mean they're 'selling out'? Yeah so maybe a brand name is tagged with them for that set of concerts but that brand also helps them get introduced to more people. A sponser doesn't change nor define the fucking music.

I think a true fan of a certain group will stick by them when the main mass hasn't discovered it, to when it goes mainstream, to when everyone else thinks it's old shit and un-trendy. If you like music, then you like it and it doesn't matter what other people think; so don't be an ass and avoid the mainstream stuff. You might actually discover that some of it is pretty good.
